Desmond L Henry

Desmond Leneil Henry was born August 3,1971 at Newark Beth Israel Hospital to James M.Washington(Robert) And Dollie P. Henry. Desmond was the oldest of four. (Dexter,Damien and Jasmine) Desmond grew up enjoying martial arts, music,and football just to name a few. Desmond attended Nelson Chapel AME Church. He loved his God, his Bible his family and friends.Desmond was very active and always helpful, He was infamous for making you box every time you see him!!

Desmond attended Chad Development,Peshine Ave Elementary and Weequahic High School, Newark, NJ. During that time he worked at the family business (G&K)on Avon Ave with his Aunt Katherine Johnson and uncle Eddie (BO)Henry. Desmond later moved to Bainbridge, Georgia with his Grandmother Lillie Mae Henry, and Uncle Pete . He attended Bainbridge High School and enjoyed playing on the football team.  Desmond later returned to New Jersey where he earned his GED. 

Desmond later met Kises  and her son Robert Franklin (stepson) and from that union their daughter, Desteni Henry was born.  She grew up to be his bestfriend (let him tell you)! He returned to Bainbridge Georgia to help his grandmother. Thru the years, Desmond struggled with diabetes and other health issues. Desmond later became a grandfather to Jamari Henry who was the “lite” of his life. That Trio was unmatched!! Desmond’s dream was to return to NJ to live with his daughter and grandson. 

On January 26,2024 Desmond’s life sadly ended.Desmond was preceded in death by father James (Robert) Washington, grandmother Lillie Mae Henry, Uncles Randy and Eddie ( Bo) Henry, Aunt Martha Ann Pearson(Frank).

Desmond leaves to cherish Mother Dollie Henry, Children Desteni Henry, Robert Franklin, Grandson Jamari Henry Brothers Dexter Washington, Damian(Mark) Henry, Corey (Anne). Sisters Jasmine Stanford, Lynesha Eaddy Aunts Pearl Bradley , Katherine Johnson, Gloria Wright  , Emma Wright, BeLinda Wright Corley ,  Uncles Thomas Henry, Pete Neal (Rene), Roger Wright , Patrick Wright , Charles Wright. Nieces and Nephews. Qatashia(Ariel, Aurbree), Alquan, Shanice (Ashani), Al’Quadir, Marquasia(Ihmaru,Laila), Dezmond(Sahar, Azaii), Hajji, Haniyfa, Markala, Anyiah, Ayonna, Gianni. And a host Of Family and Friends
